I was going to write a longer post about the joys of reading in the tub, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized I’d rather read in the tub than write about it.
Reading anywhere is a pleasure of having free time, though it can be squeezed in around other activities – commuting on the bus, or while waiting for a doctor appointment. Reading in the tub is more of a luxury.
- First, you need to have a bathtub. I’ve spent enough time living in rooming houses or basement apartments to appreciate having a private bathroom with a bathtub.
- Second, you need to have uninterrupted time in your house. That can be a challenge in a shared residence, especially if children are there.
- Finally, you need a waterproof e-reader, or a book you can afford to lose if you drop it. My bathtub reading material is usually a used romance novel I picked up for 50 cents.
If you don’t have a tub, are without hot water, or just want to read something without the danger of soaking it, I hope you have somewhere cozy and quiet to enjoy the pleasure of reading.
